On June 15 2012 Pope Benedict XVI established the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross for Australia and its region for those Catholics of Anglican heritage, patrimony and tradition who wished to preserve and maintain their distinct traditions and liturgical style in the Universal Church. This was the third of such Anglican Ordinariates in the Catholic Church within the Latin Rite after the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walshingham in the United Kingdom and the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter in the United States of America. These Ordinariates are commonly called the Anglican Ordinariates. At present (June 2018) there are eleven parishes in the Australian Ordinariate in different states and Japan.
At present there is no Ordinariate parish in Tasmania. This blog is to support a new Ordinariate prayer group of members of the Ordinariate and supporters that wish to work towards an Ordinariate presence in Tasmania. The group is in the process of formation and believes that it may be beneficial to start an Ordinariate service of traditional Anglican evensong. The Little Eucharistic Brothers of Divine Will are hoping to start a Sunday evening Evensong service at their Beit Achim (House of Brothers) at St Joseph's Hidden Place in Dover. Eventually it is hoped to hold Evensong on one Sunday of the month in the local Church.
Brother Gilbert Joseph of the Divine Presence is a member of the Ordinariate and the Littlest Brother (superior) of the Little Eucharistic Brother of Divine Will and has had a great devotion to St Gilbert of Sempringham since 1994. Part of the inspiration for the Little Eucharistic Brothers of Divine Will was St Gilbert of Sempringham and Gilbertine spirituality (which is seeing a revival in some spiritual circles). Sadly for the other Brothers, Brother Gilbert Joseph's cooking style is very similar to Gilbertine Pottage.
Br Gilbert Joseph first saw the name St Gilbert on a calendar at the time his father Gilbert was dying of a brain tumour about 11 days before February 4th 1994 the Feast Day of St Gilbert. He decided to do a novena to St Gilbert of Sempringham for his father leading up to the feast day. His father Gilbert died on February 4th on the feast day of St Gilbert of Sempringham. The Gilbertine Order was the only English founded Religious Order from the Medieval Period in England.
